Finding Change

In year 2 we have been looking at money and this week we have explored how we can give change. We have used our subtraction skills to be a shopper and a shopkeeper and find the correct coins for change.

Building bridges

Continuing our journey into all things ‘material’ based in science, we decided to construct some bridges and consider the properties of materials while doing so. Each team had a limited amount of paper, cardboard, sellotape, string and scissors. Alongside the resources, they had 5 tokens that could purchase more of each – some teams splashed out on sellotape, some on paper, some kept the tokens ‘just in case’.

What we witnessed was an astounding display of communication, teamwork, perseverance and creativity. All the children were engaged and they just had a really great time!

How do barcodes work?

Have you ever found yourself wondering, ‘how exactly do barcodes work?‘ Well wonder no longer – just ask your friendly team 2J! Children explored how IT systems work together to improve the retail experience for all and, of course, had LOADS  of fun doing it! Beep Beep!

Interview with a chicken

Recently, Year 2 classes had the once in a lifetime opportunity to interview a chicken! The chicken was unable to join us in the classroom, but booked a time to join a Zoom call. Mr Jones, Miss Paget and Miss Groves acted as translators (Mr Jones used his specialist ‘Chicken Translation’ headphones) and passed on the children’s AMAZING questions. The chicken gave some interesting answers and filled us all in on some top bird knowledge!

IT, IT, everywhere…

…but lots to spot I think!

This term in Year 2, we’re looking at Information Technology in the world around us. So far, we’ve considered what is and what isn’t IT, have been on an IT hunt around school and have completed some sorting using laptops, which included developing mouse control skills and practising resizing images. We’ll continue our learning and let you know how we get on!

Paper invasion!

As we continue our mission into the world of materials, we come across paper. What is it used for? What properties does it have?  How much water does it mop up? Can you make a trendy hat out of it? The children developed their vocabulary, experimented and had lots of fun while doing it – what more could we ask for. Well done Year 2!
